Come out for barbecue, bluegrass

The fourth annual Anne Springs Close Greenway Barbecue and Bluegrass Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Dairy Barn, 288 Dairy Barn Lane, Fort Mill. The event includes live music and barbecue samples from 25 competing cook teams. Tickets are $10 adults; $5 children ages 6 to 12; free for children 5 and younger. Proceeds benefit the Greenway's new wayfinding initiative. For details, call the greenway at 548-7252.

Rock with Fury and Fernandina tonight

Check out the brass at middle school

The Boston Brass will perform at 7 p.m. today in the auditorium at Rock Hill's Rawlinson Road Middle School. Doors open at 6:30. Tickets are $15 adults, $10 seniors and students and free for children in 5-year-old kindergarten or younger.

The ensemble's lively repartee, touched with humor and personality, bridges the vast ocean of classical formality to delight audiences to an evening of boisterous, exciting knowledge and an enthusiastic love of music, exhibited by the five brash bass players.

Shady Grove kicks off McCelvey Series

Bluegrass band The Shady Grove band will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at McCelvey Center, 212 E. Jefferson St., York. The performance kicks off the 2008-2009 McCelvey Series. There's Pop and Praise at Emmett Scott Center

Pop and Praise will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Emmett Scott Center McGirt Auditorium, 801 Crawford Road, Rock Hill. Performing will be the New Dramatic Obsession, Princess Pop Lock and more. The event is sponsored by You Better Sing Music and Art Center, a non-profit youth art organization. Admission is $10 adults; $5 students ages 6 to 18 and free for children 5 and younger. Historical marker honors Rock Hill depot

A new state historical marker commemorating the Rock Hill railroad depots and street railway will be unveiled at 4 p .m. Oct. 2 at Good Kia Car lot, White Street at Dave Lyle Boulevard, Rock Hill. PRT's Happy Travelers hitting the road again

The Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department The Happy Travelers is planning the following trips:

• Shatley Springs, Oct. 7, Cost $78, registration deadline Sept. 29.

• Myrtle Beach, Dec. 5 through 7, cost $310, registration deadline Oct. 5.

Boys Home, Clemson institute partner to serve at-risk youth

A reception announcing the new partnership between the Boys Home of York County and Clemson University's Youth Learning Institute will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Old Cotton Factory, 300 Chatham Ave., Rock Hill. The goal of the partnership is continued service to at-risk male youth in York County. The event is open to youth-serving organizations and practitioners of York County.
