Aladdin bringing his famed lamp to York stage

The Yorkville Players will present a new version of "Arabian Nights" at 8 p.m. Oct. 10, 11, 17 and 18 and at 3 p.m. Oct. 12 and 19 at McCelvey Center, 212 E. Jefferson St., York.

In this fast-paced comedy, Aladdin and his friends encounter a mysterious stranger from the East who has an eye for Aladdin's lamp. Tickets are $8 adults and $5 children ages 12 and younger. Reenactment, lecture among CHM events

The Culture and Heritage Museums will have the following events:

• "Black Hope, White Fear," a reenactment of a slave revolt attempt of 1860, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Historic Brattonsville, 1444 Brattonsville Road, McConnells. The program is included in the cost of regular admission. For details, visit www.chmuseums.org or call 684-2327.

• Dedication of a new state historical marker commemorating the Rock Hill railroad depots and street railway, 4 p.m. Thursday at Good Kia car lot, corner of White Street and Dave Lyle Boulevard, Rock Hill. Six depots built at that location between 1851 and 1912 served passenger and freight trains for 122 years. This free event is open to the public. Fort Mill is hosting art, craft festival

Union church hosting local awareness events

The Community Family Life Center of Union Baptist Church, at S.C. 274 and Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill, will have the following free events during October:

• Voting information and registration, 6 p.m. Wednesday.

• A foster care and therapeutic foster parenting discussion by the York County Department of Social Services and Family Preservation and Community Services, 6 p.m. Oct. 15.

• An information session on HIV/AIDS prevention and other transmitted diseases by the York County Health Department and Catawba Care Coalition, 6 p.m. Oct. 22.

• Food distribution, 10 a.m. Oct. 28.

York County libraries will be closed Tuesday

All York County libraries will be closed on Tuesday for staff training. Normal operating hours will resume Oct. 1.

Bluegrass fest, clearance sale among charitable benefits

The following will have fundraisers:

• Kings Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church will have a yard sale beginning at 7 a.m Saturday. The sale is open to individuals, families and groups. Yard sale spaces and tables are available to rent for $5 each. Sausage biscuits, hot dogs and a bake sale will be available in the Fellowship Hall. • The Carolina Country Bluegrass Gospel Hall of Fame third annual Bluegrass Festival, 6 p.m. Oct. 3 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 4. Proceeds will assist area musicians with medical and prescription needs. Bands performing include "Deeper Shade of Blue," "Toby Creek," "Blue Carolina," "Pinetuckett" and others.
