Art fair planned in Hickory Grove weekend after Thanksgiving

The Hickory Grove Art Fair will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 28 and 29 at Mount Vernon Methodist Church, 2160 Smith Road, Hickory Grove. Artwork to be featured includes pottery, jewelry, baskets, glass, textile arts, woodworking, paper, metal, drawings, paintings, photography and other items.

Catawba dancing, food part of celebration

St. Anne Catholic School celebrates the Americas from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday in the school's family life center, 1698 Bird St., Rock Hill. The event is a conclusion to the week-long celebration of geography awareness week.

The event will feature Catawba Indian dancing and drumming, a presentation on the people of the Amazon by Professor Chacon, a musical presentation by the school's 5th to 8th grade choir, food, art displays and crafts. The public is invited and may come dressed in costumes from any culture found in the Americas.

Holiday events include tree lighting, bake sale>

• The Lando Community Christmas tree lighting will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Lando-Manetta Mills History Center, 3801 Lando Road. The free event is open to the public. For details, call 803-789-6361.

• The Family and Community Leaders will host a Thanksgiving bake and craft sale at the Market Building, 116 Columbia St. in Chester at 8 a.m. Nov. 25. Homemade cakes, breads and pies will be on sale as well as craft items. For more details, call the Clemson Extension Service at 803-385-6181, Ext. 111.

• Inspiration Baptist Church on Comer Road, Rock Hill, will host a Thanksgiving dinner for those who are homeless and in need of a meal or a friend from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday. To reserve meals or for more details, call 803-329-2467, 803-230-0244 or 803-230-2475.

CHM events include open house, show

The Culture and Heritage Museums will have the following:

• The 2008 Vernon Grant ornament and card unveiling will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Museum of York County, 4621 Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill. For details,803-329-2121. The card is based on an image from the collection of Wayne and Lib Patrick.

• Museum store holiday open house, 5 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Museum of York County.

• "The Velveteen Rabbit" 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., and 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the McCelvey Center, 212 E. Jefferson St., York. Admission is $7 per person and reservations are recommended by calling 803-684-3948, Ext. 27.

Christian center to host concert

Jubilee Christian Center will have a gospel concert at 11 a.m. Nov. 23 at the center, 2105 Old York Highway. Gospel recording artists High Expectations from Boiling Springs will perform. CRAVE youth group to host local pageant

Emmett Scott Center to host seniors banquet

Local NAMI offers family education program

The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Piedmont Tri-County area of S.C. will sponsor the NAMI Family-to-Family free education program for families of persons diagnosed with serious mental illness. The 12-week series will begin from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 11 at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, 421 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill.
