Monday

(Musical) sounds of the circus: Parents and children, you can explore Discovery Place's new exhibit, "Circus!" Then walk to ImaginOn, 300 E. Seventh St., Charlotte, to learn more about circus music and try your hand at lots of different musical instruments with the Charlotte Symphony Guild's Musical Petting Zoo. Children must be between age 6 and 10 only and must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. The event is free, but registration is required. For more information or to register, call 704-973-2720.

New to DVD: Among the new releases on DVD are "High School Musical 3: Senior Year," Clint Eastwood's "Changeling" and Bill Maher's documentary "Religulous."

Black History Trivia Contest: Test your knowledge of black history with a trivia contest at the York County Library in Rock Hill. Just drop by the second-floor reference desk and pick up an entry form. One winner will receive a gift card to a local restaurant and two movie passes. Entry forms must be turned in at the library by 5 p.m. Feb. 27.

Wednesday

'Red, Hot and Swing!': Les Lankhorst, who starred as Frank Sinatra in last season's "The Rat Pack is Back" returns to Charlotte with a tribute to Big Band music. "Red, Hot and Swing!" will be at Booth Playhouse, 130 N. Tryon St., and will feature Lankhorst's voice on tunes by Sinatra, Bobby Darin and Peggy Lee. Beat of the World: Come to ImaginOn, 300 E. Seventh St., Charlotte, from 6 to 7 p.m. to discover the cultures of the world through dance and drama. The program is for students in second through fifth grades. For more information, call 704-973-2780.

At the movies: New movies opening today include the sports comedy "Fired Up."

The undead come to Charlotte: The Light Factory presents a 40th anniversary showing of the horror classic "Night of the Living Dead" with special guest, director George A. Romero. Saturday

Zoinks! This sounds familiar!: It's your last chance to see the Queen City Theatre Company's presentation of "Spooky Dog and The Teen-Age Gang Mysteries," a play about a familiar gang of teen sleuths and their talking dog, at 8 p.m. at Duke Energy Theatre, 345 N. College St., Charlotte. The play contains adult language and is for mature audiences.
