On one side, South Pointe took the court without two starters, which includes standout guard Stephon Gilmore, who sat out with an ankle injury.
But on the other bench was five Chester starters, who did not take the court due to disciplinary reasons.
South Pointe was able to adjust better without their two aces in the lineup and cruised to an easy 90-52 home victory on Friday night.
Gilmore was on the bench in street clothes with a sore ankle, and returning starter Devin Wherry is out six to eight weeks following knee surgery.
However, that allowed others on the Stallion roster to step up with solid performances. Sophomore Tre Erby led a balanced South Pointe attack with 23 points as the Stallions were in complete control from the opening tip.
South Pointe grabbed a 19-10 lead when Charles Holmes threw down a crowd-pleasing dunk following a Cyclone turnover.
Guard Cory Kessler boosted the Stallion momentum with a 3-point jumper, and Erby scored following an offensive rebound for a commanding 23-10 lead after one quarter.
Chester, who saw its top three scorers ride the bench, did rally to within eight following a steal and layup from guard Devin Jackson.
However, South Pointe took complete control by closing out the half with a 14-3 run, including 3-point goals from Erby and guard Mike Douglas.
Leading 39-20 at the half, South Pointe continued to dominate down the stretch, building the margin to 70-36 after three quarters.
"We played hard and shot the ball well," South Pointe coach Dwayne Hartsoe said. "I know that they were missing their starters, but we were also missing two, including one who had not yet played this year.
"We are real pleased tonight. We got a lot of scoring from different individuals."
Chester, 1-2, was led by guard Maurice Wright with 13, followed by James Johnson and Avery Evans with 10 and nine points, respectively.
In addition to Erby, South Pointe got double-digit scoring from Mike Douglas with 14. The Stallions are now 2-1 overall.
