JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The one quarterback on the Carolina Panthers' roster who's had success against Jacksonville didn't get a chance to repeat it Sunday.

David Carr, who was 6-4 all-time against the Jaguars during his five years with Houston, was the Panthers' inactive third quarterback for the 37-6 loss at Alltel Stadium on Sunday.

Coach John Fox made Carr the third last week against San Francisco, partly to protect him from the home fans who booed him off the field the previous week. But the move extended to the road, as well, as rookie Matt Moore backed up starter Vinny Testaverde.

"Any time you lose, it's frustrating, but not being able to do anything about it is frustrating, too," Carr said. "But coach Fox made a decision, and it's his deal. I'm just out there trying to get better and do what I can do."

Carr said that while others might have lost confidence in him, he hasn't wavered in his own estimation. He also avoided speculating on his own future, as he has another year left on the two-year, $6.3 million deal that brought him to Charlotte to back up Jake Delhomme. He's said repeatedly the last few months that this year has been a continuation of his years in Houston, where he was the franchise's first draft pick but left there with a 22-53 record as a starter.

"I don't know. I don't want to look that far ahead, to tell you the truth," he said. "We have practice next Wednesday, so I'm going to go out there and throw the ball around and enjoy it. I have spent too many years bumming out and being depressed about the game and beating myself up over games. I take it seriously, it's my job. But at the same time, I can't worry about the future. I just enjoy what I have and go on.

"It hasn't happened, and it's been tough for everyone. I can't sit back and feel sorry for myself and how it hasn't been a great Super Bowl run. And we haven't done what I want to do. At the same time, the whole team is hurting, and I can't take it all on myself. All of my buddies are struggling, too."

• OL SHUFFLE: The Panthers were without starting right guard Jeremy Bridges after he came down with an abscessed tooth Sunday morning. They made him inactive, creating the first disruption on the line since he missed the first two games of the year serving a suspension. They had started the same line in the 10 games since.

The Panthers started Geoff Hangartner in his place, giving them an experienced replacement.

Bridges said after the game that he was feeling better, but was in significant pain beforehand -- even after a pain-killing shot.

"Everybody has wisdom teeth, and I've got a nice-sized cavity in one, and it was giving me hell earlier," Bridges said.

He said he had an appointment scheduled for Tuesday to remove the malevolent molar, on the upper right side.

"I got up, ate the pre-game meal this morning, something got in there and it went haywire," Bridges said.

In addition to Carr and Bridges, the rest of the inactives were: Wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett (who didn't make the trip because of his knee injury), offensive tackle Frank Omiyale, Bridges, defensive end Charles Johnson, defensive tackle Gary Gibson, linebacker James Anderson and safety C.J. Wilson.
