County chair for RNC

The election of York County GOP Chairman Glenn McCall to the Republican National Committee would be good for both York County and South Carolina -- not to mention the Republican Party as a whole.

If elected, McCall would be the only African-American on the 100-member committee that writes party platforms, decides the primary schedule and helps shape election strategy. But McCall not only would bring diversity to the RNC, he also would be a natural ambassador for the party, reaching out to new and younger voting blocks.

McCall has demonstrated his ability at outreach with weeks spent driving around the state speaking to county organizations and talking with party activists. As a member of the RNC and one of the highest-profile Republicans in the nation, McCall also would help shine a light on the interests of South Carolina and, more specifically, York County.

The vote will occur Saturday during the annual state convention. Columbia political strategist Drew McKissick is the other candidate contending for the RNC spot, and turning out supporters could be the key.

Whatever the result, McCall will rank as an up-and-coming member of the party. York County Republicans are fortunate to have him as a representative.
