Braves upend Knights

- Staff Reports

Richmond, Va. -- The Richmond Braves beat the Charlotte Knights 3-1 Sunday at The Diamond.

Chuck James pitched seven scoreless innings, running his string of consecutive scoreless innings to 14, to lead the Braves.

Richmond picked up all the offense it would need in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Jason Perry.

The Braves added a run in the fifth when a sacrifice fly by Josh Anderson cashed in a leadoff triple by Brent Lillibridge. The Knights evaded a shutout in the eighth thanks to a solo home run by Jared Price.

James earned the win while lowering his ERA to 1.18. Mike Gonzales picked up a save, while Charlie Haeger took the loss. Lillibridge had three hits for the Braves. Former R-Brave Jason Bourgeois had two hits for Charlotte.

The Braves and Knights continue their series today at The Diamond starting at 7 p.m.

Damian Moss will pitch for the Braves against Lance Broadway.
