Knights fall short in 3-2 loss to Iron Pigs

Staff ReportsJune 21, 2008

FORT MILL -- The Knights just couldn't keep the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs away in a 3-2 loss Saturday at Knights Stadium. Charlotte tied the game twice as the Knights batters put some power behind their swings.

The first tie came in the second inning as outfielder David Cook hit his first solo home run as a Knight. The second time the Knights tied up the score was when Knights hitting machine Brad Eldred hit a solo home run in the sixth. Lehigh answered in the eighth and went on to win the game.

RHP Esteban Loaiza started the game for the Knights and pitched three innings. He stuck out two and allowed two runs. But it was RHP Charlie Haeger who was credited with the loss as he came into the game after Loaiza. Haeger went for six innings, striking out six of the 21 batters faced.

The Knights conclude their series with Lehigh Valley this afternoon. The Knights will put RHP Lance Broadway (7-4, 3.45 ERA) on the mound and Lehigh will counter with LHP Brian Mzaone (7-5, 3.12 ERA). The game starts at 2:15 p.m. at Knights Stadium.
