Four people face prostitution charges after police said they tried to sell sex this week in a Rock Hill grocery store parking lot.
Charged with prostitution on Thursday were Andreaka Renee Broom, 17, of Rock Hill; Dontrell McCoy, 20, of Rock Hill; Trevone Hue-Anthony Winn, 21, of Rock Hill; and Candice Ashley Hildreth, 18, of Fort Mill, according to a report from the Rock Hill Police Department.
The charges against the four stem from an incident Thursday in the Compare Foods grocery store parking lot at 1807 Cherry Road.
Around 7:45 p.m., the group approached an 18-year-old store manager, the report states.
"He was outside taking a smoke break," Lt. Jerry Waldrop said. "They approached, and one of the men asked him if he wanted to have sex with either of the two girls. The manager told them 'no.'"
The report states the manager walked away from the group and returned to the store, where he alerted an off-duty city police officer working security inside the store.
The officer found the group in the parking lot.
"She (Hildreth) told the officer that she was having financial problems and needed money," Waldrop said.
According to the report, Hildreth said that she wanted to have sex with the 18-year-old manager in exchange for money to eliminate "problems at home."
Thursday's incident is isolated, Waldrop said. There are no other reports of prostitution at the store, he said.
"This is a rare situation," he said. "We know there are prostitutes in the city, but we do not have a lot of cases that are brought to our attention."
Officials have not linked the group to any known prostitution ring in York County, Waldrop said.
Broom, McCoy and Hildreth were released from jail on bond Friday.
Winn remained in custody Friday night at Rock Hill City Jail.
