• The 31st annual Great Pumpkin Road Race will be held on Oct. 25. The 5K run starts at 9 a.m. with the 1-mile fun run starting at 9:50 a.m. Both runs start and finish near Dinkins Student Center at Winthrop (corner of College & Sumter). Registration is available online at strictlyrunning.com and on race day until 8:30 a.m. For information, contact Dan Wellbaum at danwellbaum@msn.com or (803) 329-6913.

• The Clover Recreation Department is holding youth basketball registration for children ages 4 to high school on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. from now until Oct. 29. Due to the Red Ribbon Carnival, registration will not be available on Oct. 28. Be sure to bring a birth certificate with you when registering. Registrations will be taken at the Clover Community Park Building, located at 256 Community Park Drive, on a first come, first served basis. • York School District 1 girls basketball tryouts will be held Nov. 3 and Nov. 5-6 from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Harold C. Johnson Middle for 7th graders; at York Junior High for 8th graders; and York Comprehensive High for JV. Varsity tryouts will be from 4-6 p.m. Nov. 3-6 at York Comprehensive High. Girls must have a current physical and parent permission form and be in good academic standing to try out for any of the teams. Prospects may pick up a physical form from the front office at your school.
