USC's Lanning earns SEC weekly honors

COLUMBIA -- University of South Carolina punter Spencer Lanning has been selected as the SEC's special teams player of the week.

Lanning, a 5-11, 182-pound sophomore from Rock Hill who played high school football at York, punted a season-high eight times for a 45-yard average with three kicks inside the 20-yard line in South Carolina's 27-6 win over Tennessee on Saturday night. Lanning had two punts that traveled 50-plus yards and averaged 41.1 net yards per punt.

Tennessee's average starting field position for the eight punts was its 22-yard line.
