More Clover and York Comprehensive high school students in 2007-2008 received college credit for Advanced Placement test scores than in the previous year, according to a report released Thursday.

Rock Hill students' scores were mixed, while Fort Mill saw a dip.

The S.C. Department of Education's final 2008 Advanced Placement report includes scores for public high schools across the state with students who took AP courses and at least one AP exam.

At York Comprehensive High, 76 percent of students tested scored high enough to earn college credit. That's a 21-point leap from the 55 percent who did so during the 2006-2007 year.

Clover High School saw 84 percent of test takers earn college credit, an 8 percent jump over the previous year.

Statewide, an all-time high of 15,362 students scored high enough to earn college credit. That's 3 percent more over the previous year's 14,922. Also, the number of students who took the exam grew to 26,872 from 26,117.

S.C. school districts must provide Advanced Placement courses in all secondary schools with grades 11 or 12. These classes are meant to prepare students for national AP exams. Students who score 3, 4, or 5 on an AP exam get college credit for the equivalent course.
