Autopsy results released in fatal Rock Hill fire

- The Herald

Authorities on Tuesday released the name of the Rock Hill woman who died during a weekend fire at her apartment.

Della Brice, 53, of 218 Whitgreen St. died from smoke inhalation and heat exposure during the fire that happened Saturday, said York County Coroner Sabrina Gast.

Around 1 a.m. Saturday, two officers noticed the burning duplex and went inside to find Brice, according to police. Their search was interrupted by heavy fire and smoke.

When firefighters arrived, fire was coming out of a front bedroom window. Authorities found Brice in a front bedroom. A second occupant, a man, managed to escape.

Fire damage was estimated at $60,000 and three people were displaced. The Upper Palmetto chapter of the American Red Cross assisted those people.
