Rock Hill wrestling squads impress in victories

It was a big weekend for Rock Hill High School's wrestling teams.

On Friday, the Bearcats' varsity team ran its record to 18-2 overall and 3-0 in Region 4-AAAA with a 65-10 win over Blythewood. Weston Beck was awarded a forfeit at 119 pounds for his 100th career victory.

Rock Hill, ranked No. 1 in Class AAAA, wrestles Lancaster today and travels to South Pointe on Wednesday for a match that will decide the region title.

On Saturday, Rock Hill High hosted the Carolinas JV and Middle School Duals Team Championships. The Bearcats JV team went 5-0 and won the title. South Pointe was eighth at 2-3.

Rock Hill's Darshaey Moore was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the JV tournament. The middle school award went to Lugoff-Elgin's Michael Gissette, who led his team to the title. Sullivan Middle School was second.
