Meeting between Rock Hill's Elwin Wilson, U.S. Rep. John Lewis set to air this morning on ABC

- The Herald

A televised segment about this week's historic meeting between U.S. Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., and Rock Hill's Elwin Wilson is scheduled to air around 7:30 a.m. today on ABC's "Good Morning America."

Wilson has admitted to beating up Lewis in 1961 at the Rock Hill bus station when Lewis was a Freedom Rider civil rights activist protesting segregation.

After stories in The Herald about Wilson's apology to protesters and about Lewis accepting that apology, "Good Morning America" brought Wilson to Washington, D.C., where he apologized to Lewis in person on Tuesday.

The Herald's account of that meeting was published in Wednesday's Herald and can be read at heraldonline.com.

Wilson is the first and only person to apologize to Lewis for having a role in the bus station beating.

"Good Morning America" airs locally on WSOC-TV, Channel 9, and in most areas is available on Comporium Cable Channel 4.
