Authorities have charged a 21-year-old Rock Hill man in connection with last week's single-car crash that claimed the life of Rene Zambrano Alejanbro Loyola Jr.
Luis Anibal Tenorio of 2506 Celanese Road, Apt. D, has been charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in a death and driving under suspension, according to a Web site maintained by the York County Sheriff's Office.
Tenorio was booked at the York County Detention Center around 9:45 p.m. Thursday, the Web site notes.
Tenorio's charges stem from a Jan. 31 accident. Around 12:26 a.m., Tenorio was driving a 1990 Honda north along Red River Road when the car went off the road and overturned, ejecting Loyola, who was riding in the front seat, according to Cpl. Bryan McDougald of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Loyola, 20, of 1103 Springdale Road, Apt. 1115, Rock Hill, died at the scene from head and neck injuries, York County Deputy Coroner Ev Amick told The Herald.
Tenorio was taken to Piedmont Medical Center, McDougald said. At that time, Tenorio's condition was listed as guarded, according to a hospital spokesman.
At the time of the crash, Loyola was not wearing a seat belt, but Tenorio was wearing one, McDougald said.
The men were the only occupants in the car, officials said.
A judge on Friday set Tenorio's bond at $10,652.50, according to a detention center official.
Tenorio remained in custody Friday evening at York County Detention Center.
