CHARLOTTE -- Want to know how the 2010 Panthers might look?
Here's a rundown of the entire roster, including contract status and their chances for being around in the future:
QUARTERBACKS
Jake Delhomme
Bottom line: Got off to a wretched start and has only lately stopped stinking. But his play was so erratic that coaches drew back the game plans and didn't appear to trust him as implicitly as the past. Still has the support of the locker room and John Fox.
Contract status: Through 2014 (actually 2011).
Will he be in Charlotte in 2010? Should be, unless a new coach hates him, which is possible.
Matt Moore
Bottom line: The fact they went and signed A.J. Feeley rather than wait four weeks for Josh McCown to get well speaks volumes. All the physical tools, but doesn't appear serious enough about his job.
Contract status: Through 2009 (restricted).
Will he be in Charlotte in 2010? Only if Fox stays, and they can't find an upgrade in free agency or draft.
A.J. Feeley
Bottom line: Veteran stopgap hasn't seen the field, and he won't unless things get really goofy.
Contract status: Through 2009 (unrestricted)
Will he be in Charlotte in 2010? No.
RUNNING BACKS
DeAngelo Williams
Bottom line: Off to another brilliant start, without the benefit of a passing game to take heat off him. Cementing his place among league's elite, and not even a few fumbles can tarnish that.
Contract status: Through 2010.
Will he be in Charlotte in 2010? Definitely, with thoughts toward an extension depending on the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Jonathan Stewart
Bottom line: Whether it is health or something else, doesn't look as explosive as last year. Lingering injury has him barely practicing.
Contract status: Through 2012.
Will he be in Charlotte in 2010? Definitely.
Mike Goodson
Bottom line: Looked great in training camp. Disappeared since then. Part of it is concussion, part of it is that he is a little scattershot with assignments.
Contract status: Through 2012.
Will he be in Charlotte in 2010? Yes.
Tyrell Sutton
Bottom line: Looking like a nice piece to have around. Has some pop as a runner; stepping in as a fullback got him some street cred. Productive and cheap.
Contract status: Through 2011.
Will he be in Charlotte in 2010? Yes.
Brad Hoover
Bottom line: The high ankle sprain isn't the biggest question mark, it's the back issues. That's an old-guy injury, and that's dangerous when your replacement already is on the roster.
Contract status: Through 2010.
Will he be in Charlotte in 2010? Maybe, if he can prove the back problem is not chronic.
Tony Fiammetta
Bottom line: Looked lost early on when Hoover was out with back problems. Seems to have a better grasp of things now, but fullback is not a position you learn overnight.
Contract status: Through 2012.
Will he be in Charlotte in 2010? Yes.
WIDE RECEIVERS
Steve Smith
Bottom line: Numbers are off, and frustration is high, but when given chances, has produced. Needs some help, but still able to get it done.
Contract status: Through 2012.
Will he be in Charlotte in 2010? Definitely.
Muhsin Muhammad
Bottom line: It has been a great run, but it's almost over. Can't get open downfield anymore, and that has resulted in team collapsing on Smith. Gets a hero's goodbye, though, because he came back from Chicago more mature than he left, if not as productive.
Contract status: Through 2009 (rnrestricted).
Will he be in Charlotte in 2010? No.
Dwayne Jarrett
Bottom line: Shows glimpses of his talent but hasn't gotten many opportunities until Muhammad got hurt. Still sketchy as to whether he will ever justify draft status, but in practice he looks like a young, quiet Keyshawn Johnson.
Contract status: Through 2010.
Will he be in Charlotte in 2010? Yes, since he's still cheap and young (only 23, believe it or not).
Kenny Moore
Bottom line: There are times he looks like a poor man's Ricky Proehl, and there are times he looks like he's happy to be here.
