Cadillac driver runs down pedestrian in Rock Hill

- The Herald

Police hope a gas tank cover, headlight and other car parts will lead them to the driver who witnesses say struck a pedestrian in Rock Hill late Monday night, fracturing his leg.

No one in a crowd of around 20 people on Friedheim Road could give an exact vehicle description when police arrived, but the car parts found at the scene point to a black Cadillac Deville or similar model vehicle, according to a Rock Hill police report.

The victim, a 54-year-old man who admitted he had assaulted a man on the same street with two beer bottles the day before, said he was stepping onto the sidewalk when the car began to speed up. The car struck the curb before striking him, continued down Friedheim Road and struck the side of a telephone pole. Then it hit a concrete slab in the grass and fled the scene, police reported.

Impact from the crash caused a black gas tank cover with a light gray pin stripe to fall off, along with a headlight that had LED-style lights and a plastic radiator protector with the word “Deville” written on it. The car might also have a flat tire and damage to the front and left side, police reported.

Some parts were found in the Adams Grocery parking lot.

Police traced the vehicle tracks, which ended near Pond Street.

The victim had a severe compound fracture to his right lower leg and told officers he thought someone was trying to kill him.

EMS transported him to Piedmont Medical Center, where he was in good condition Tuesday.
