I promise we're not changing the name of the Biz Buzz Blog to the How to Get Free Food Blog (though it might become more popular). But yet another local eatery is giving away something for free, so I figured you'd like to know.
This time, Dunkin' Donuts is offering a free donut (your choice) with the purchase of any beverage in honor of National Donut Day, which is Friday.
Though National Donut Day might seem like something that was cooked up recently, I was somewhat shocked to learn it actually dates back to 1938 and was started by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor the women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. It's now celebrated on the first Friday in June. Read the complete Wikipedia synopsis here.
There are three Dunkin' Donuts locations in York County -- two in Rock Hill and one in Fort Mill. In case you're reading this from outside the county, find your local participating franchise here.
If you really want to get into the spirit, you can RSVP on Facebook.
Krispy Kreme also will have a Donut Day promotion, though the company doesn't have any stores in York County. However, somewhat nearby North Carolina locations in Gastonia and Matthews plan to participate. Just for kicks, here's a list of all the Krispy Kreme locations nationwide that will offer a free donut on Friday.
Unlike the Dunkin' Donuts promotion, there's no purchase necessary to get a free donut of your choice at Krispy Kreme.
The company also plans a big social media presence to commemorate the day. Customers are urged to tweet their desired doughnut variety with the hashtag #KrispyKreme, then take a picture while eating said donut at Krispy Kreme and post it to the company's Facebook fan page.
I'm guessing it will be a big day. People love donuts, and people love free donuts even more.
