Now free, Polanski pops up at jazz festival in Switzerland

Film director Roman Polanski has made his first public appearance since he was released last week from house arrest, attending the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland to watch his wife perform on stage.

Polanski, 76, arrived at the Lake Geneva festival Saturday evening in a sport utility vehicle with tinted windows. When he emerged, he brushed his fingers through his hair - a trademark gesture - then was ushered into an elevator. Security personnel protected him from a crush of photographers.

Polanski's wife, the actress and singer Emmanuelle Seigner, performed shortly after his arrival, wearing a flannel shirt, a black hat and jeans.

The Oscar-winning director was freed Monday from seven months of house arrest at his Swiss chalet when Switzerland's government refused to extradite him to the United States. Before that, he served two months in prison as the Swiss government pondered whether he should be handed over to U.S. authorities to be sentenced for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977.

Polanski still faces an Interpol warrant in effect for 188 countries.

"For the moment, I'm happy to be free and to be able to do the things I was kept from doing," Polanski told Swiss television during an interview earlier Saturday.

Report: Hilton held for drugs again

Paris Hilton was briefly detained in Corsica after sniffer dogs detected a "quite small" quantity of marijuana in her bag, a French newspaper reported Saturday.

Corse Matin newspaper said officers at the airport in Figari found about one gram's worth of marijuana. Hilton, who was transiting the French Mediterranean island in a private jet on Friday, was hauled in for questioning and released about 30 minutes later, the report said.

On its Web site, the newspaper said Hilton was traveling along with "personalities close to power in Malaysia" from Paris to Porto-Cerno, in Sardinia.

In a Twitter post Saturday, Hilton wrote, "Just to put an end to these rumors. The stories saying I have been arrested are completely false! I am having the best vacation of my life."

Earlier this month, Hilton was arrested after a World Cup match in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, on suspicion of possession of marijuana. The case was then dropped at a midnight court hearing.

Kardashians team up for swimwear

The Kardashian sisters have gone from reality TV stars to designers.

The girls teamed up with Beach Bunny Swimwear - which they sell in their stores - and designed swimsuits shown during the brand's runway show on Friday night as part of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2011.

Kim Kardashian said her designs were more glamorous, with jewels. Her sister Kourtney Kardashian went with the nautical look, while Khloe Kardashian-Odom said she wanted "fun, but a lot of coverage but still really young and sexy."

Lucy's daughter will get awards

An auction house selling Lucille Ball memorabilia says it is returning the actress' lifetime achievement awards to her daughter.

Heritage Auction Galleries says a deal reached Saturday will return the awards to Lucie Arnaz Luckinbill, Ball's daughter with first husband Desi Arnaz.

A sale of dozens of other Ball-related memorabilia was scheduled for will happen Saturday. Items up for bid include a Rolls Royce and love letters to second husband Gary Morton.

The deal announced Saturday ends a legal fight between Luckinbill and Susie Morton, who married Gary Morton after Ball's death in 1989.
