Time to unleash your inner wild child at White Trash Benefit Party 6 Saturday in the parking lot between The Ultimate Gym and The Chop Shop in Charlotte's NoDa Arts District.
The event, presented annually by Nasty Productions, will benefit the Police K9 Foundation (policek9foundation.org) to help outfit these special dogs with protective vests.
The now legendary honky-tonk happening White Trash Party is a tacky tour de force jammed with "over the top" entertainment and shenanigans. Round up all your rowdy friends for this day that will surely live in villainy, not to mention garish grandeur, thanks in large part to morphing musical changelings Iron Cordoba, assisted by T he Brown Liquor Pickers and The Loose Lugnuts.
It's an anything goes rock assault of originals, covers and parodies ripped from all genres -- classic, country, metal, rock-a-Billy, Southern, stoner, modern rock to rap and back. Also, look out for the herd of cheeky accomplices involved in antics including the "Hillbilly Honeys" go-go dancing to tunes spun by MC Slim Pickin's; Gore-A-Licious Girls Wrestling; plus various vehicle contests -- a White Trash car competition, Motorcycle Burnout clash, even a lawn mower race.
Win trophies for the Shortest Daisy Dukes, best male/female costume, Overall Trashiest, Wet -T and other examples of tacky daring. Go rogue anti-vogue fashion-wise and trot out your best Britney-wear and accessorize at will for an ultimate "no style."
Then, crank up your tractor, jump in your jalopy, gas up whatever ya got and dash down to the 6th Annual White Trash Benefit Party, in the parking lot between The Ultimate Gym and The Chop Shop, 401 East 35th St. in Charlotte's NoDa Arts District. This is an 18 and over show. Gates open at 5 p.m. and show time is 6 p.m. For more info call 704-333-0071 or check ultimate-gym.com.
Seems like just yesterday they launched their really no-kidding final tour, but here we are a decade or more later with Kiss on tour Saturday at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Charlotte.
Unleashing their "Hottest Show on Earth Tour," Kiss is still rocking live some 36 years after the release of their self-titled debut album. Some of the band personnel has changed over the years except for founding members Gene Simmons, bass guitar, lead and backing vocals; and Paul Stanley, rhythm, lead guitar and lead and backing vocals. Rounding out their foursome nowadays find Eric Singer, currently on drums, backing and lead vocals; and Tommy Thayer, lead and rhythm guitar and backing/lead vocals.
Fire-breathing, blood -spitting, wailing guitars, booming bottom, over the top lighting and plenty of pyrotechnics, makes Kiss easily the grandest band in the land particularly where high performance concert staging is concerned. Their musical accomplishments include 24 gold albums; over 19 million albums sold in the United States (per RIAA certifications); and worldwide sales exceeding 100 million albums. They were 10th on VHI's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock and ninth on MTV's The Greatest Metal Bands list. Kiss was also nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 -- 10 years after becoming eligible but so far have not made the cut for actual induction. Nevertheless, Kiss rocks on filling arenas, selling merchandise, and diversifying their brand. In concert they deliver two hours plus of crowd-pleasing, high-voltage anthemic rock favorites, including "Cold Gin," "Firehouse," "Deuce," "Black Diamond," "Detroit Rock City," "I Love it Loud" and "Rock and roll All Nite."
Verizon Wireless Amphitheater is at 707 Pavilion Boulevard, Charlotte. For show/ticket information, call the concert hotline at 704-549-5555 or visit livenation.com. For more on the music, visit kissonline.com.
