Children's theater

The Children's Theater of Chester, a part of the Chester Little Theatre, will present an adaptation of William Shakespeare's comedy called "A Kidsummer Night's Dream" at 8 tonight and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday. Based on "A Midsummer Night's Dream," this musical brings comedy, music, misidentification and mischief to the stage at the Chester Little Theatre on Columbia Street. The cast of 26 range in age from 7 to 18 and will play the familiar characters from the mischievous Puck to the proud Titania to the boastful Bottom. Reservations can be made now by calling 803-377-1101. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and $5 for students. Seating is limited.

Concert

Award-winning spoken word artist and slam poet Colin Gilbert and Grammy-nominated musical duo Sam & Ruby will perform at 8 tonight in Byrnes Auditorium at Winthrop University. Sam & Ruby's roots are Ghana, West Africa, and their sound has been described as a mixture of Tracy Chapman and Jewel. Sam & Ruby's latest CD was selected as "Best CD of 2009" by the Associated Press. Tickets are $5 with a Winthrop ID, $10 for the public and free with Welcome Week Pass. Greek night

The Arts Council of Chester County and Cyclone Restaurant will present An Evening in Greece from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the War Memorial Building on Main Street in downtown Chester. Authentic Greek food will be catered by Cyclone. Entertainment will include Greek music and dancing and a live performance from young adults in Spartanburg's Greek community. Patricia Moore-Pastides, wife of the president of the University of South Carolina, will be the honored guest. She will discuss her time spent in Greece and her new cookbook with traditional Greek recipes. A book signing and meet and greet will be available. A cash bar of beer and wine will be available. Summerfest bluegrass

As part of York's Summerfest, the Snyder Family Band will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Lowry Family Theater at McCelvey Center on East Jefferson Street in downtown York. The family includes Samantha, 11, with vocals and violin; Zeb, 15, with vocals and guitar; dad Bud on bass; and mom Laine chiming in occasionally for three-part harmony. These popular entertainers from North Carolina have their first release on Mountain Roads Recordings, "Comin' On Strong." The band performed at MerleFest in May and has been invited to participate as an official showcase band for the World of Bluegrass Business Conference in Nashville in September. Tickets are $8 for Culture and Heritage Museum members and $10 for non-members.

Concert

The Band of Oz, a prominent beach music band, will kick off the 2010-11 Performing Arts Series at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Bundy Auditorium at the University of South Carolina at Lancaster. The band organized in the mid-60's and was inducted into the Beach Music Hall of Fame in 1997. Tickets are $50 and available by calling 803-286-1145 or e-mail p.arts@lancastercitysc.com.

Recycled Percussion

As seen on "America's Got Talent," Recycled Percussion is a power percussion/junk rock show, led by the world's fastest extreme drummer, Justin Spencer. They'll perform at 8 p.m. Saturday in Byrnes Auditorium at Winthrop University. The chest-crushing, power-driven, sweat-drenched drumming with mind-blowing beat box vocal artillery skills makes this a show not to be missed. Combining rhythmic grooves with mesmerizing percussion, this is an electrifying show. Tickets are $5 with a Winthrop ID, $10 for the public, and free with Welcome Week Pass. Universal Motown recording artist-rock show SafetySuit will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday at Byrnes Auditorium at Winthrop University. Their singles "Stay" and "Someone Like You" went to No. 1 on VH-1 Top 20 Countdown last year. Tickets are $5 with a Winthrop ID, $10 for the public and free with a Welcome Week Pass.
