Yiasou Greek Festival

The annual Yiasou Greek Festival continues at 11 a.m. today at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral on East Boulevard in Charlotte. More than 45,000 people are expected to attend the four-day festival featuring food, Greek arts and crafts, cathedral tours and entertainment. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $2 with children younger than 12 admitted free with a parent or guardian. Art reception

An opening reception for the Edmund Lewandowski -- Precisionism and Beyond art show will be from 6:30 to 8 tonight in the Rutledge and Patrick galleries in the Rutledge building at Winthrop University. The show is the first retrospective of the artist's work and was organized by the Flint Institute of Arts. The late Lewandowski was an art professor and chair of the Department of Art and Design at Winthrop University. The works will be on display through Dec. 9. Gallery hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additional weekend hours will be noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 18 and 19, Nov. 6 and 7 and Nov. 13 and 14. Saturday, Sept. 11

Barbecue and blues

The Time Warner Cable BBQ & Blues continues from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday in Center City Charlotte with plenty of barbecue and ice-cold beer. In addition there will be pig races and official tailgating games: swerve, washer toss, bag toss and mini bag toss. The games are free to play and the perfect score wins $10,000. The event also will features blues bands, cooking demos, a Breyers ice cream sampling truck and more. Admission is free. Handbell concert

The Raleigh Ringers will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday Westminster Presbyterian Church on India Hook Road in Rock Hill. The Raleigh Ringers are an internationally acclaimed community handbell choir based in Raleigh, N.C. Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door.

Thursday, Sept. 16

Southern Women's Show

The Southern Women's Show opens at 10 a.m. Sept. 16 at The Park, formerly the Charlotte Merchandise Mart, on Independence Boulevard in Charlotte. The Southern Women's Show has something for every woman -- savvy shopping, creative cooking ideas, healthy lifestyle tips, trendy fashion shows, great celebrity guests and fabulous prizes. Meet Food Network television star, New York Times bestselling author and editor-in-chief of her own magazine, Sandra Lee, on Sept. 17. Other show dates and opening times are 10 a.m. Sept. 17 and 18 and 11 a.m. Sept. 19. Tickets are $9 for adults at the door, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and children younger than 6 are admitted fee. One man show

Michael Reno Harrell's "My Roots Are Showing" will be performed at 8 p.m. Sept. 17 and 18 and 3 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Community Performance Center, 249 E. Main Street in Rock Hill. The one-man show is a Southern boy's bumpy road to manhood. This family-friendly, hilarious, heart-warming show highlights the humor and wit of veteran songwriter and storyteller Harrell. Musical

Theatre Charlotte presents "Annie" at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the theater, 501 Queens Road in Charlotte. One of the world's best-loved musicals is back. Annie is a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find her parents, who abandoned her at a New York City orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. In one adventure after another, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil plans, becomes friends with President Franklin Roosevelt and finds a new family and home with billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his secretary Grace Farrell and a lovable mutt named Sandy. With its upbeat ending and bright, tuneful score, it's no wonder this heartwarming show has become an international sensation. It's recommended for the entire family. Play Day

To celebrate being named a "Playful City USA," the city of Rock Hill and Rock Hill school district will host their inaugural Day of Play from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 18 at Cherry Park. This event also will kick off a year-long celebration of Cherry Park's 25th anniversary. The day's events include entertainment and free activities, including sports clinics, bike rodeos, trail walks and nature play activities. Local schools will offer games and relays. Area businesses will provide free play opportunities. Eat Smart Move More York County, Rock Hill Parks, Recreation and Tourism, and other organizations promoting healthy lifestyles will have booths with information on health and nutrition. Sunday, Sept. 19

Concert

Winthrop University Department of Music will host a special concert to commemorate the 50th birthday of composer and Winthrop faculty member Ron Parks at 4 p.m. Sept. 19 in Barnes Recital Hall on the campus. The concert will feature recent works written by Parks for piano, piano duet, piccolo and piano, bass flute and electroacoustic music. Other faculty performers featured include Tomoko Deguchi and Janice Bradner, piano; and Jill O'Neill, flute. Parks, associate professor of music, came to Winthrop in 2001. His awards and honors include the Aaron Copland Award, the Outstanding Junior Faculty Award at Winthrop University and the South Carolina Music Teachers Association Commission. "Music of Ronald Keith Parks: A Celebration of His 50th Birthday" is free and open to the public.
