There is only one more hurdle to climb for Rock Hill High wrestling brothers, Weston and Seth Beck.
The Becks, who are a combined 432-24 in their four-year careers, captured their fourth straight Class AAAA wrestling championship on Saturday at the individual wrestling tournament at Northwestern.
Weston Beck claimed gold in the 130-pound division and, moments later, Seth gained his fourth state title at the 135-pound class.
The Beck brothers joined teammate Thomas Perry, who wonthe heavyweight division in only his second year of competition.
Now the Becks will go to next week's Class AAAA state championshipwith a chance to capture one unfulfilled goal.
"We never won it together," Wes said about past state championships. "That is our goal."
Weston has won two individual titles and was once runner-up. Seth has won one state title and has twice been runner-up.
The brothers said that throughout their careers, they have pushed each other on, and off, the mat, offering each other tips. Both rave about each others strategic approaches by setting up opponents with a variety of wrestling maneuvers. They also havetwo older brothers, Travis and Chad, who are past Rock Hill Bearcat champions.
Perry, a senior, sat in awe after defeating his opponent, CJ Barksdale of Hillcrest, in the heavyweight finals, reaching the Upper State championship after only two years of competing.
"(Barksdale) is a strong guy," Perry said, "but the key was to get him off of his legs. That pretty much tired him out."
Rock Hill will send four other wrestlers to next week's Class AAAA championship tournament at the Civic Center in Anderson. Jonathan Schavey (189) and Collin Meachum (160) were runner-ups in their respective divisions while Robert Mills (152) and Johnny Munas (145) advanced as fourth-place qualifiers.
"We had seven to qualify, so I thought we had a real good weekend," Rock Hill coach Cain Beard said. "We had a couple to score upsets with our 152 (Robert Mills) and 145 (Johnny Munas) qualifying," after not being ranked among the top four in respective weight classes prior to the event.
Northwestern will send one wrestler to the state. Michael Allen placed fourth at 103 pounds.
