Peterson: Panthers future and past?

Posted on March 14, 2011

OK, so I didn't drive to LSU's pro day like I did Auburn's last week.

But Ron Rivera made the trip, and spent plenty of time with LSU CB Patrick Peterson.

No corner has ever been drafted first overall, but Peterson makes a solid case this year. He's a rare mix of size and speed, and doesn't carry as many questions as some of the other names you hear in the conversation.

Our buddy Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune has the whole story, but Peterson might have been filling Rivera in on some Panthers history when they dined.

Seems his favorite player growing up wasn't a defensive back at all, but former Panthers RB Stephen Davis, which had him choosing 48 for his pee wee uniform.

Don't tell Davis that though, he'll just feel old.
