To parahrase Mark Twain, reports of the typewriter's death are greatly exaggerated.

Earlier this week, there were reports that Godrej and Boyce Manufacturing Co. of India was suspending its sale of typewriters. Dwindling demand had led the company to stop making typewriters several years ago. The firm's inventory is about 200 typewriters, most keyed for Arabic.

Then came the announcement of Swintech of New Jersey. They are making typewriters in Japan, Indonesia and Malaysia and selling them most to government agencies and directly to prisoners. The typewriters sold to prisoners in 43 states have clear cases so contraband could not be hidden inside them.

It me thinking, does anyone in the area still use a typewriter in their business? Does anyone still clack away at correspondence?

Is there anyone who repairs them locally?
