Moore helps run Clover past Forestview

Herald correspondentAugust 27, 2011

— Clover pride never dies.

The Blue Eagles sent that message to the home crowd one week removed from suffering a 63-0 loss. Ryan Moore's 99-yard touchdown run served as the signature play for Clover in a 35-16 win against the Forestview (N.C.) Jaguars on Friday.

Clover (1-1) finished with 342 rushing yards, and Moore led the way with 161 yards and three touchdowns.

"That's the kind of Clover football I'm used to seeing on the field," first-year coach John Devine said. "We played hard, and we played physical."

The Blue Eagles' defense also rediscovered its mojo. Jaitaivius Littlejohn and Trenton Hartis helped bottle up Forestview standout Octavious Wallace, who had 216 rushing yards in Week 0 against Nation Ford. Wallace finished with 129 yards, but it took 34 carries.

"We didn't help them out," Devine said. "We are proud of them on defense. We really stepped it up."

The Blue Eagles opened with a five-play, 55-yard drive, capped with a timely pitch from Ta Long to LaDarius Adams for a 6-yard touchdown. Long added an 87-yard touchdown on a keeper in the second quarter, and kicker Austin Schlirf improvised with a 2-point conversion pass to Moore for a 15-0 lead.

Forestview (0-2) broke the shutout with a safety, but Clover's Trey Childress ended the ensuing drive with an interception.
