FORT MILL — The result, they'll take. But the Nation Ford Falcons were less than thrilled with the methodology. That might be the best sign of the progress the Falcons are making.
The Falcons rolled to a 55-0 victory over Lewisville, moving them to 3-1 on the season. That matches the school-high win total they've reached in three of their first four seasons.
But as encouraged as they might be by the record, they had to feel disappointed because of the bizarre way the first half unfolded.
The Falcons scored on three of their four first-half possessions, but they had to work twice as hard to get the points because of their own mistakes. They were flagged eight times for 130 yards in the first half. The penalties negated a 57-yard punt return touchdown by Dijuan Ussery and a 69-yard interception return by Kevin Stewart, plays that had the fans on their feet.
Some were garden variety holds and facemasks, but there were several personal fouls as well.
"I'm telling you, we had a serious talk at halftime," Allen said. "There's a fine line between aggressive and smart, and aggressive and not-so-smart. We addressed that situation. We're not going to be able to compete with the teams we have to play if we keep that up."
Despite the ease of the win, the Falcons were training their sights forward, knowing they have some history to overcome. They haven't won a region game in school history, and Wells said the early success and a new attitude have them believing they can change that.
