Nation Ford gets 2nd region win

Herald correspondentOctober 15, 2011

— It took nearly four years for the Nation Ford Falcons to win their first region game, but only three games into the 2011 region schedule to pick up a second, as the Falcons held on for a 13-12 win over Chester High School.

Chester missed a 35-yard field goal with 5.6 seconds left.

The game could have huge playoff implications, as it boosts the Falcons in the Region 4-AAA standings.

"Now we are moving forward," said head coach Michael Allen. "We are in a heck of a position. We are where we want to be. We will take it any way we can get it. I am very proud of the kids."

Defense dominated the game for both Chester and Nation Ford, as each squad held the other in check for the majority of the game.

Nation Ford was able to take a small lead in the final period as junior Daniel Jackson scored his second touchdown of the game after a 12-play drive. The Falcons were aided by a roughing the passer penalty on the drive that put them at the Chester 12.

Jackson rushed for 132 yards on 28 carries to lead Nation Ford.

The Cyclones took their first lead of the game in the third quarter, as backup quarterback Jamarcus Moore scored after an eight-play drive in which he put together runs of 13 and 15 yards to pick up two crucial first downs. Chester was also aided by a 22-yard run from K.J. Dixon to set up the score.

Chester starting quarterback freshman Tommy Sanders didn't come back in the second half until late after getting banged up before the half.
