Last week against C.A Johnson, Lewisville put on an offensive clinic in its rout of the Green Hornets.
On Friday night, the Lions encountered a defensive buzz saw in region rival Great Falls in a game to determine second place in Class A region three.
Great Falls held Lewsiville scoreless in a 28-0 drubbing in a game that ensured the Red Devils a home playoff game.
"The Lions put up 54 points last week, and I don't care how you get them - that's a lot of points," Great Falls coach Kenny Schofield said. "For us to shut them out says tremendous things about our coaching staff and our players. It was a team effort."
The Red Devils' defense set the tone for the first half from the very beginning.
In the first quarter alone, Great Falls pinned Lewisville deep in its own red zone on three consecutive offensive drives, with Red Devils senior running back Ernest Talford scoring two first half rushing touchdowns on favorable field positions.
Led by DeAndre Hoover, the Great Falls interior line was impenetrable, holding the Lions to just 20 combined yards as well as forcing seven fumbles, three of which were recovered by the Red Devils.
Great Falls committed costly mistakes of its own, leading to a 15-0 lead over Lewisville that could've been much higher. Two first-quarter scoring drives were negated after a lost fumble by Red Devil senior wide receiver Xavier Holmes, as well as an interception thrown by Great Falls quarterback Clark Schofield. Both turnovers occurred inside the Lions' 20 yard line.
As the rain came in the second half, offense was hard to come by for both teams. Hoover netted two third-quarter sacks and frequently collapsed the pocket against a Lewisville offense that didn't notch a first down in the game until the five-minute mark in the third quarter.
Great Falls finishes the season with a 6-4 record, and a 4-1 region record.
