Lancaster closes with win against Clover

From staff reportsNovember 5, 2011

Lancaster capped its 2011 regular-season home schedule with a 49-19 Region III-AAAA win over Clover at Memorial Stadium on Friday night.

Lancaster, scoring on both sides of the ball early, built a quick 14-0 lead on the Blue Eagles on the way to the 30-point win.

Terrell White dashed 71 yards for a touchdown and Shaq Williams, on Clover's ensuing series, raced 75 yards for a 14-0 lead after picking up a Clover fumble.

The Bruins led 35-13 at the half and cruised to the win.

"This gives us a winning season and momentum heading into the playoffs," LHS coach Bennie McMurray said. "This is our third time in the playoffs in the last three years.

"I'm happy for our seniors to close out their careers at home with a win," McMurray said.

Senior running back Roy Watts paced the Bruins scoring three touchdowns, including an 80-yard TD run, and rushing for 156 yards in 10 carries.

Lancaster advances to the Class AAAA Upper State playoffs next week.

"We scored in every phase tonight, but didn't score enough," Clover coach John Devine said. "They made some plays and put us away."
