TE Connectivity has laid off nine people from its Rock Hill plant.

Company spokesman Mike Ratcliff said Monday the announcement was made at the plant last week. The eliminated positions are not factory jobs, he said.

The action is part of TE Connectivity's continued efforts to streamline operations, he said.

TE Connectivity's Rock Hill plant makes electronic connectors. It is an integrated process facility that stamps metals, plates metals with various minerals and then assembles the components.

This is the third round of layoffs at the plant this year. In February, the company eliminated 74 temporary positions and 35 permanent jobs at its Fort Mill facility, according to layoff notices filed with the state.

In May, the company eliminated 25 jobs at the Rock Hill facility.

Workers being laid off will received the company's standard severance package, which is based on years of service and salary, Ratcliff said.

The Rock Hill facility now has about 325 employees.

This year, the York, Chester and Lancaster region has lost 334 jobs through layoffs and business closures, according to reports filed with the state. Layoff notices are required by the federal government for companies with 100 ore more employees and must be filed 60 days in advance of the layoffs.

Layoffs at TE Connectivity account for 43 percent of the lost jobs in the three-county region.

The unemployment rate for York County in October, the most recent numbers available, was 12.1 percent; 13.7 in Lancaster County and 15.3 percent in Chester County.

The state's unemployment rate is 10.5 percent.
