All Allen Ternes and his fiancee, Heather Messer, wanted to do Monday night was play their new Wii.
We had just got home because we went out and bought a Wii, Ternes, 20, told The Herald Tuesday. We plugged it in and starting playing it.
They were sitting on the couch in their Stones Crossing apartment on Riverview Road in Rock Hill when they suddenly heard squealing tires.
We heard a big boom," he said. "Before we could tell what it was, we had a car sitting in our living room.
A black Mazda had come in through the bedroom and crashed through the wall into the living room couch, where the two had been sitting.
He and Messer, 18, were "dazed."
We didnt know what to do, Ternes said. We sat there for a second and saw smoke. We though the apartment was on fire so we went out the back door.
The two never saw anyone get out of the car.
However, they were taken to the hospital to treat minor injuries. While there, Ternes said Highway Patrol deputies told them the driver was drunk and had since been arrested.
On Tuesday, Highway Patrol officials said the report of the incident was not yet ready.
Ternes and Messer were released from the hospital several hours later. Their two rabbits, Scooter and Spinky, were injured but are expected to recover.
He said Stone Crossing is giving them another apartment. Their bed and bedroom furniture was destroyed, along with the couch and coffee table.
We got the TV and the Wii and our other electronics, he said. They survived. We got most of our clothes, but nothing else is one piece.
Ternes said the experience has made he and his fiancee closer. They are planning a wedding for later this year.
We never thought this was would happen to us, he said. You see it in the movies, but you dont think it could happen.
He was also thankful that they hadnt been in the bed when the car crashed into the apartment.
We wouldnt have made it if wed been in the bed, he said.
