Fort Mill High is sending seven wrestlers to the 3A individual state championships Saturday in Anderson, as they qualified the most 3A wrestlers locally.
Following Fort Mill was both Chester and York, each who qualified five wrestlers. Nation Ford and South Pointe each qualified three wrestlers.
"We brought 12 and would like to have 12 going (to states), but to get seven out of the Upper State, we are pleased with that," said Fort Mill coach Chris Brock.
The state championships for all classifications will be held next Friday and Saturday at the Anderson Civic Center. The top four finishers in each weight class qualified to go to the state tournament.
The Jackets also brought home the most Upper State winners as senior Nick Sinicrope (182), junior Nick Leitten (145) and sophomore Tyler Turner (113) all won Upper State titles.
Sinicrope won his title with a 12-3 major decision over Eastside's Chris Scott. Leitten won his title 8-1 over York's Marcus Sheppard and Turner had the closest finals match of any Jackets wrestler winning 3-1 over Greenville's Cortez Starks.
Chester had two Upper State title winners in Antonio Patton (132) and Dominick Davis (152).
Patton defeated Greer's Danny Kimball 12-9 and Davis beat Nation Ford's Manako Peay by pin fall in just 55 seconds.
York's only Upper State champion was Lealon Comer (138), who beat a well-known foe in South Pointe's Cam Pike by a 5-1 decision.
Both South Pointe and Nation Ford were shut out from winning Upper State titles.
Pike was the only Stallions wrestler to make it to a final, but Nation Ford had three make it, with all three falling.
Besides Peay, Markevis Duncan fell to West-Oak's Matt Westbury 3-1 in double overtime at 160-pounds and Josh Driscoll was pinned by Wade Hampton's Joseph Holland in the second period at 220-pounds.
