ROCK HILL — Former Northwestern High School track standout Emily Smith was named to U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's All-Academic Track and Field team this week.
Smith graduated in 2008 from Northwestern as a two-time high jump state champion.
In her career at College of Charleston, she is the second-ever athlete to qualify for NCAA regionals in back-to-back seasons. She was also named Freshman of the Year by the Southern Conference for the indoor track season.
Smith earned a degree in Business Administration from College of Charleston and plans to work forward a MBA in the future.
To qualify for the indoor track All-Academic team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list.
