CHESTER — The 21-year-old Richburg man accused of killing the alleged rapist of a family member has been released on $40,000 bond, jail officials said.
Antwan Terrill Whites lawyer claimed in a bond hearing Tuesday that White is not guilty of the murder of Michael Jermaine Terry, 39. A 16-year-old girl told police that Terry, a family member, sexually assaulted her July 29 in Richburg near her home. About an hour later, police said Terry was found dead in the road after being shot in the head and chest.
White was arrested days later. Prosecutors allege that White went in pursuit of Terry after learning of the rape allegations, then shot him twice.
Authorities have said that officers did not have a chance to question Terry about the rape allegations before he was killed. Terry has a criminal record dating back two decades, records show.
White is next scheduled to appear in court in October.
