ROCK HILL — An 18-year-old Winthrop University women’s lacrosse player was charged with underage drinking on Saturday night, according to a Winthrop Police report.
University police officers found the athlete, Alexis Kroah, in a dorm room after an 18-year-old teammate called 911 to report that Kroah had been vomiting uncontrollably for over an hour, the report states.
EMS workers took Kroah to Piedmont Medical Center where she later told police she “had been drinking shots of liquor with some lacrosse teammates,” according to the report.
Winthrop Police issued Kroah a $470 ticket for underage possession and consumption of alcohol, the report states. Kroah has a Sept. 21 court date set to face the charge.
The Winthrop women’s lacrosse team is new this year, joining the Big South Conference as its sixth women’s lacrosse team. Winthrop’s inaugural season kicks off Feb. 8 against Howard University in Washington, D.C.
