Rock Hill man shot in face, police say, maybe by gun stolen from him

Published: September 7, 2012

Police are investigating a shooting that left a man in the hospital after he was shot in the face Thursday night – possibly by a gun that had been stolen from him – according to a Rock Hill police report.

The 50-year-old man told police he was “doing his nightly check around the woods of his property when he heard several gunshots” on Red River Road, the report states.

He said one of the gunshots “sounded like it came from a gun that was stolen from him” and he heard an unknown person nearby say “something like, ‘nice gun you had,’” according to the report.

Hearing this and realizing he’d been shot, the man ran back to his home.

Two witnesses told police they heard the gunshots but did not see a witness. Police have not found the weapon and have not located the shooter yet, said Lt. Brad Redfearn of the Rock Hill Police Department.

The victim was treated at Piedmont Medical Center but refused to cooperate for police to conduct a gunshot residue investigation, the report states.
