YORK — The York Cougars didnt mess around Friday night as they ran their record to 4-0.
The Cougars scored twice before Keenan ran a play from scrimmage on their way to a 51-0 lead at the half and a 65-0 victory.
The first touchdown came on a 66-yard drive capped by Spencer Carrolls 6-yard pass to Josh McCoy.
Buddy Anderson converted to make it 7-0, then took his place on the field and set up to kick off to the Raiders. Anderson hit a high pooch to his left, which surprised the players on Kennans front line. The ball hit a Raiders player and Yorks Ray Ray Ellis recovered at Keenans 32.
The Cougars reached the Raiders end zone two plays later, scoring on a 27-yard romp by Daurice Simpson around right end.
The rest of the half was all York, which was clicking just as well on defense. The Raiders never crossed the 50, had no first downs, were held to minus 18 yards rushing and lost 2 yards on two completed passes.
York blocked a punt, tipped a punt and scored on a safety when Lee Wright dropped Keenan quarterback Titus Hopkins for an 11-yard loss in the Raiders end zone.
Keenan ran 17 offensive plays in the opening half and only two went for positive yards, runs of 2 and 6 yards.
Our defense played lights out, the way it has all year, York coach Bobby Carroll said. You have to play who you schedule, but the thing about this game was we were clicking. One concern was our special teams, but we played well all around tonight.
After York pushed it to 14-0 after the fumble recovery, the Cougars started only one of their next seven possessions in York territory. It ended with a punt. The Cougars fired away on their next six possessions and were ahead 30-0 after the first quarter and added 21 in the second.
After Wrights safety. the Cougars scored on runs of 1 and 6 yards by Ryan Moore and Wright. Carroll connected with Moore for a 30-yard TD pass and Simpson for 11 yards.
The Raiders fared a little better in the third quarter, picking up three first downs. They broke the ice on the first series of the second half on an 11-yard run by Daetron Hyman. But that was about it as far as highlights for Keenan.
York got it going on its first possession of the third quarter. It was Moore again, who scored his fourth touchdown of the game on an 11-yard run.
We were not getting the blocking we needed the first three games, had a hard time driving the ball and getting first downs, Moore said. That was different tonight. We walked on the field and was clicking right away. We got good blocking all night.
There were times when I bumped a man off and kept running. It might have looked easy because of the score, but it wasnt. Our entire team played well, we watched film and practiced hard.
The final touchdown came with the subs on the field. Anthony Smith took a handoff in the fourth quarter and bolted up the middle for a 45-yard TD on the first play of the fourth quarter.
