Police confiscate BB gun from boy who shot road sign

— Police on Tuesday confiscated a BB gun from a Rock Hill boy after he shot BBs into a road sign and removed the orange tip from the weapon.

Police were called to the 900 block of Eastwood Drive after receiving calls about a boy, 14, shooting a BB gun at the back of a yield sign, according to a Rock Hill police report.

Officers noticed the back of the sign had several small dents. The boy’s mother brought him to the scene, where he turned over his gun to officers.

The gun, a replica of a Beretta 96, had its orange tip removed. The boy said his friend gave it to him, the report states.

Officers spoke with the boy, his friend and their parents to explain the seriousness of the offense, the report states. No charges were filed.
