ROCK HILL — A 42-year-old Rock Hill woman was charged Tuesday with driving under the influence after she registered .31 on a blood alcohol test and told police her cheating husband drove her to drink.
Around 7:10 p.m., police were sent to the Family Trust on 1615 Progress Way after receiving reports of a woman’s car smoking in the parking lot. Officers asked the woman what happened with her car, but she seemed unaware that there was smoke billowing from the hood, according to a Rock Hill police report.
The woman said her husband was cheating on her and she had too much to drink. When officers asked how much she drank, she said, “a lot,” the report states. She said she started drinking around 3 p.m.
Police found an open container of vodka in the console next to the driver’s seat. She then refused to do a field sobriety test.
Police took her to jail, where they administered a field sobriety test. She kept talking over the officer who was instructing her on what to do. She then stopped doing the test, sat down and kept saying she had too much to drink.
Officers administered the DataMaster test that gauged the woman’s alcohol level at .31. They received the same results when they repeated the test 45 minutes later.
The legal limit in South Carolina is .08.
Officers took the woman to Piedmont Medical Center because of her high alcohol level and charged her with open container and driving under the influence.
