Rock Hill man electrocuted while working at SC school

Published: October 10, 2012

— A 44-year-old Rock Hill electrician was found dead Wednesday in an electrical room at Marlboro County High School in Bennettsville.

Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown said Jeffery Cheek of 1801 Williford Road was apparently electrocuted between Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

Cheek’s body was found around 8 a.m. Wednesday by a school employee with the janitorial or maintenance staff.

Brown said Cheek was a sub-contractor for Nixon Power Services Company, which has a Charlotte office and branches in Tennessee and Kentucky.

Cheek was working alone at the time of the incident, Brown said, and had been contracted to fix the high school’s generator.

The coroner has ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina. Brown said autopsy results should be available on Thursday late afternoon.

Authorities say students were kept in their classrooms for about two hours while the death was investigated.
