ROCK HILL — A Rock Hill woman driving her 13-year-old son to his grandmothers house struck him in the face during an argument and abandoned him on the side of the road, police say.
The 33-year-old woman, whom The Herald is not naming to protect her sons identity, told police she was arguing with her son when she lost it and struck him for being disrespectful, according to a Rock Hill police report.
When she stopped her car at a red light on Eden Terrace at Mount Gallant Road, she forced him out of the car and drove off, the report states.
Responding to a 911 call, police found the boy crying in a nearby parking lot, the report states. He told an officer that his mother had been arguing with him and when he repeatedly answered OK, she told him not to get smart with her and tried to hit him twice, hitting him the second time.
Police arrested the mother and charged her with unlawful conduct toward a child. The 13-year-old and his 17-month-old sister were placed in the custody of their grandmother.
