Lancaster Bruins rally to beat Clover Blue Eagles

Herald correspondentOctober 13, 2012

— Of all the losses the Clover Blue Eagles have suffered, this one may hurt the most.

Clover led 21-14 with eight minutes left in the game and were doing exactly what it wanted to do: run, run, run. Six minutes, two huge mistakes and three Lancaster scores later, Clover was down by what would turn out to be the final margin, 36-21.

Clover struck on the first play, as Ladarius Adams broke to the outside and outraced everyone to make it 6-0. Kadarius Jackson started out hot for Lancaster. He hit 4 of 5 passes for 62 yards on Lancaster’s first drive. His 6-yard run and Terrell Rivers’ run for two made it 8-6 Bruins.

A 31-yard Evan Edmunds field goal just before the half made it 9-8 Clover. The Blue Eagles did have another chance to score, but they were stopped on fourth down inside the Lancaster 25.

Lancaster struck on its drive of the second half, as Jackson finished off a 95-yard drive with a 38-yard run to make it 14-9. Clover struck late in the third quarter, as Scott Jackson found Landon Harkey wide open from 23 yards out to make it 15-14.

When Ladarius Adams scored four minutes into the fourth quarter, Clover led 21-14 and looked to have control of the game.

Lancaster struck back quickly. Jackson found Jay Hood from 18 yards out, and then scrambled and found an open Terrell Rivers for two to make it 22-21. The ensuing kickoff proved to be the biggest play of the night. Ladarius Adams fumbled at Clover’s 33, and Lancaster capitalized. Jackson found Rivers on a wheel route for a 36-yard touchdown. Will Jackson then picked off Adams’ halfback pass to set up Lancaster’s final score, a Rivers 16-yard run.

Jackson was 13 of 24 for 172 yards and two touchdowns for Lancaster. He also rushed 15 times for 102 yards and two scores.

Adams rushed 18 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns.

Lancaster 36, Clover 21
