A Charlotte man has been charged with three counts of trafficking marijuana after his arrest outside a Rock Hill hotel.
York County Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit officers on Thursday and Friday seized more than 39 pounds of marijuana with a street value of more than $63,000, according to a news release Friday from Marvin Brown, drug unit commander.
At 2:15 p.m. Thursday, officers arrested Charles Wayne of Charlotte in the parking lot of the Wingate Inn, 760 Galleria Blvd.
Officers say Wayne had reserved a room and a package was sent to the Wingate Inn. After receiving the package Wayne cancelled his reservation and left with the package containing 13 pounds of marijuana shipped from Arizona, the release states.
After Waynes arrest outside the hotel, officers found in his vehicle another package addressed to the Holiday Inn at 503 Galleria Blvd. that Wayne had received minutes earlier. It contained another 14 pounds of marijuana also from Arizona, the release states.
The investigation led officers to believe that two more packages of similar weight were being shipped from Arizona to additional hotels in the area the following day. On Friday, officers intercepted another marijuana package of 12.5 pounds of marijuana at the Hilton Garden Inn at 650 Tinsley Way.
A fourth package addressed to another local hotel in Rock Hill was intercepted by Arizona investigators. Additional packages were sent to hotels in Gastonia, N.C., and Concord, N.C. Arizona investigators have one person in custody for shipping the packages.
