Fans of the Great Falls Red Devils (4-6) were seeing glimmers of hope to secure a home berth in the 3-A postseason playoffs as late as the fourth quarter in Friday night’s home matchup with the Lewisville Lions.
However, four late touchdowns – all inspired from the feet or hands of Lewisville’s senior quarterback Qua Walls – put the Red Devils away, 42-14. Great Falls is now at the hands of the mercy of a media poll to decide where next week’s postseason game will be played.
Operating solely on the run game, a depleted Great Falls roster made up of 26 players made a valiant effort to knock off the visiting Lions. Running back Jake Payseur made touchdown runs from 55 and 22 yards out to score for the Red Devils and bring the score to 14-14 late in the game.
Lewisville (8-2) found itself cursed with flags, giving up 95 yards on 10 penalties throughout the contest, but Great Falls was unable to capitalize with its quarterback Clarke Schofield, who was sacked multiple times.
Walls shone through in contrast, throwing picture-perfect balls to Cody Montgomery, Tony Gaston and Jaris Elder before running a score in himself from over 60 yards out to push the advantage to 28 with a minute left in the game.
