ROCK HILL — Winthrop students and alumni gathered Wednesday night to remember a fellow student, Morgan Hughes, who died Sunday afternoon in a car crash on Interstate 20.
Members from the college's Vision of Prayze choir known as inspirational ambassadors sang a song at the vigil with the lyrics, I'm on my way to better days.
They also spent time in silence in honor of Christian McBee, a senior early childhood education major from Conway, and Caitlin Livingston, a senior special education major from Myrtle Beach, who were injured in the accident.
Livingston was released from the hospital Tuesday but McBee remained in the hospital Wednesday night.
Hughes, 21, was a senior at Winthrop, majoring in Severe Disabilities and Special Education with a minor in Early Childhood Education. She was treasurer of Winthrops Quidditch team, a member of Kappa Delta PI International Honor Society in Education and an intern at Chester High School.
She had been accepted to the China Intern Program and had plans to travel to China to teach English to children.
Her funeral is 4 p.m. Thursday at New Home Baptist Church in Conway.
