The Student Veterans Association at Winthrop University joined a nationwide grass-roots effort to honor American service men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq, Afghanistan and associated theaters of operations these past 11 years. Thursday campus and community volunteers at more than 100 college and universities across the nation read the names of all the 6,600-plus casualties of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, now called Operation New Dawn. This year, the 100 current Winthrop student veterans have worked to organize simultaneous reading of names of those from North and South Carolina who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
