YORK — A York woman told deputies her drunken brother-in-law punched her several times before he slammed her head into a car dashboard and cracked her dentures.
Deputies arrested Mark Twain Carter, 47, of 1447 Old Friendship Road in Rock Hill, charging him with third-degree assault and battery and malicious injury to personal property, according to a York County Sheriffs report.
Deborah Carter, 44, said her brother-in-law got drunk and became rowdy Sunday night. She volunteered to drive him home to avoid a fight between her husband and brother-in-law, she told The Herald.
When they arrived at his house, he slammed her car door shut.
I asked him not to slam the door, Carter said. Weve always had respect for each other.
Thats when he jumped back into the car and, according to the report, grabbed her head, beat her with his fist and then knocked her head into the dashboard.
When police arrived, Mark Carter refused to come out of the house. His girlfriend let officers in and he was escorted to a patrol car.
Police took pictures of Deborah Carters injuries. She called them hours later to say she took her dentures out and saw that the front of them were chipped and a crack had formed down the middle.
